 CAROL NGUYEN

Carol is passionate about the important partnership between science and the media, and in contributing to Paranoico aims to promote the communication of science amongst the general public. She believes that the media has a responsibility to translate scientific jargon into something that is understandable by a non-scientific audience. A strong supporter of science journalism and science education, Carol hopes to popularise a field of inquiry that appears alienating to many while remaining faithful to the integrity and ethical heart of science.

Carol is interested in the relationship between the mind and the brain, and combines her knowledge of the life sciences and natural philosophy in forming a holistic view of the world. She is a Psychology and Neuroscience major at university particularly interested in research areas such as memory, neurodegenerative disease, and cognitive neuroscience.

 CHRISTIAN FULGUERAS

After slaughtering hordes of unimaginable monstrosities and saving the world, he would have his milk and cookies.
Since his days as a child, Christian has always been drawn to the interactive immersion of video games; but also beyond that, the challenging messages they often bring beyond their entertainment value. This experience has grown to become a characteristic of self-critical moral awareness and combined with his love for riling people up, he enjoys challenging people to challenge themselves and their own morality, because values are at their most dangerous as common sense.

 ELIZABETH PHAN

Been immersed in the brilliance of technological wonder from an early age, Elizabeth has a strong connection to American popular culture, cinema, 90's cartoons and has the skillful ability to quote 99% of The Simpsons and relate scenes to her everyday life.  Nowadays, Elizabeth has acquired a penchant for Quentin Tarantino films, post-modernism and online fandom. She spends her time as a homebody, drinking black coffee, putting together craft projects and composing jazz songs. With her university major in media, Elizabeth combines a journalistic approach yet humble writing perspective to Paranoico.

 KATHLEEN FERNANDEZ-NG

Born in the ghettos of Malaysia and raised in the suburbs of Melbourne, Kathleen brings a unique combination of quirkiness, diva-tude and sophistication to her writing. Currently in her final year of Bachelor of Arts (Media & Communications), she hopes to be the next Perez Hilton by feeding and brainwashing the world with pointless celebrity gossip and popular culture. These days, her more realistic dreams are to work in Marketing/PR for companies such as WWF and Amnesty International Australia to help raise awareness for problems bigger than her own.

 TOBY DINH

Toby is a philosophy and theology major from Melbourne with a particular gaiety for metaphysics and Trinitarian theology. For Toby, philosophy is his means of inquiring into the beauty and intelligibility of our reality; to understand its profoundly meaningful workings and contrivances, as well as humanity’s place in it. In contributing to Paranoico, Toby aims to break down the barriers of superficialism and indifference: to promote enthusiasm of deeper inquiry and wisdom for both his readers and himself. In his spare time from these whimsical shenanigans, Toby enjoys table tennis, card games for children under twelve and ridiculous cat memes.

“…the movement of the development of the cosmos is borne from the beginning and in all its phases by a thrust towards greater fullness and interiority, and towards an ever closer and more conscious relationship to its ground…” - Karl Rahner (1904)

 KATHY PHAM

She's small, confusing, hard-working and shy: she's Paranoico's founder and editor.
Kathy is currently a (licensed, hah) Psychology and Psychophysiology major from Melbourne who is keen on exploring every corner of neuroscience and art. With whatever spare time she has, she likes to draw eyeballs, experiment with coffee, catch up on Breaking Bad, and take photos as a hobby.
What's in store for Kathy's future? Well, she aims to raise more awareness about mental health, the cruel beauty of the brain, cats playing the piano, and maybe all the other little things in between.
